Places to Visit In Yekaterinburg, Russia

I went to Yekaterinburg, Russia from 8-10 May 2014. I went there because I had an exchange program in Izhevsk. For me, Yekaterinburg is kind of the mixture of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and suburbs. Me and Rinat when there beside for seeing the tourism places but also to meet his friend from Tunisia, Marwan.

At there, we met Olya and Elena. They are couchsurfer. They took us to beautiful places there even Olya's friend invited us to a birthday party. Three of us stayed in Olya's flat.

We were so lucky. We were there when they were celebrating Russian Victoy's Day. And I had a chance to see the huge weapons Russia has. Here are the places in Yekaterinburg you must visited.

1. The Church of Blood
Most of in every city in Russia have church on blood. It doesn't mean that the church is really on blood. The church is actually dedicated to Romanov family who killed cruelly at the end of the revolution time. All the family members and their servant were killed.
Everyone is allowed to visit this church as long as you (woman) cover your hair, no short skirt, and wear long dress. If you are not, the church usually provides some cloth to cover the legs and scarf. For man, wearing shorts is a big no no.

2.  The Beatles Monument
In Yekaterinburg, there is the beatles monument. Though the wall is full with graffiti but it's still nice. There is a quote on the wall, "the love you give is equal to love you make ..."

In front of the monument, there is a huge black disk *not a real one. I think it's kind of a symbol of them. And not far from the beatles, there is a bench where you can sit and relax. This monument is next to Iset river.

3. Keyboard Monument
If you walk along the Isat River after the beatles monument, you will find this monument on your left. My friend said the keyboard monument is a gift from IBM company to the city. This monument is created by Anatoly Vyatkin. There is a saying that if you type what you are wish for, it will come true.

4. Monument of Vladimir Vysotsky and Marina Vlady
Vladimir Vysotsky was a famous singer, songwriter, poet, actor in Soviet era. His lyrics were more about social politics critics with humor. He married Marina Vlady in 1960. There is a museum about him near this monument. This monument is located in Antey Skyscraper.

5. Antey Skyscraper
This building is the tallest building in Yekaterinburg. It was built in 2011. There are 54 floors. You can go to the top of the building by paying 300 rubel.  At the top, you can see the whole city. I bet its going to be more beautiful if it's at night.

6. Vysotsky Museum
While you are in the Antey building, you can go to Vysostky Museum. At there, you will see his career history, his car, his place to stay, and some of his belongings. There is a small store which sells the merchandise of him from t-shirt to magnet.

7. Asia Europe Border
If you have more time, you can go to Asia-Europe Border. This place is kind of far from the city, around one hour. Thanks to Olya and Elena who willing to take us there. In that moment I suddenly remember the wishing list of Jamie, A Walk to Remember Movie. She wanted to be in two places at the same time. So, there we go. We took picture in two different side, Asia and Europe at the same time. BIG thanks to Olya and Elena.

8. Vainera Street
Vainera  Street is like Arbat Street in Moscow and Bauman Street in Kazan. The street is not that long like Bauman but still on the street there are some monuments. For instance, you can see Artamonov and his bronze bicycle, the sculpture of station worker, street vendor selling perfume, a banker and a chauffeur, and many more.
